Our History

Soon after the start of our meetings the Lord through prophecy, and other confirmations, showed me that He wanted me to pastor the church.

He also told us to baptise new believers “in the river near your dwelling”, which we do!

We moved out of the house into the Scout Headquarters for a time, briefly at Ponden Mill, and Bronte Middle School, but now we meet at West Lane Methodist Church, Haworth.

Our vision is to save as many people as possible from the kingdom of darkness and to bring them into the Kingdom of light, and by the power of the Holy Spirit to lead people into all truth, so that they may have an abundant life, and give glory to God.

Soon after the Lord Jesus gave us the acronym FERN, He also gave us through Avril, the vision that, just as people come to Haworth to see and experience wherethe Bronte family lived, so people would come to Haworth to find and experience Jesus as Saviour and miracle worker in their lives. He has also told us through Avril that this is a strategic work for Him.

We have been instrumental in planting two Churches in the Seychelles, (a group of islands in the Indian Ocean). These churches are growing rapidly with many signsand wonders.

We have assisted The Church of the Power of Jesus Christ which is in Kenya, with visits, teaching and finance.

The Lord also gave us the vision that Christians from other Churches will come to FERN from time to time to receive encouragement from Him, and will then take back that Holy Spirit fire to their own Churches.

FERN gives financial support to Christian evangelical organisations and independent preachers. Why We Are Called FERN.

At a prayer meeting brother Barry Dorricott, saw a vision of a fern branch, and the Lord told him that just as the fern leaves branched out again and again, so this church would branch out likewise. The Lord also told him the word FERN stands for Free from Earthly and Religious Notions.

There are many earthly notions in the world today. Many believe that by simply doing good things, and not being too bad, they will attain heaven. God says not so. Only by repenting from our sins and receiving Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour,do we receive the free gift of eternal life. We cannot earn it through our own goodworks. (Titus 3 vs 5. Eph 2 vs 8)

There are many religious notions. Some think by performing religious rites, i.e. being christened, baptised, attending church or, bowing to a cross, for instance, will earn them the right to everlasting life. The Bible clearly tells us it is not by our own works, (righteousness), but only by being born again of the Spirit of God, do we receive everlasting life. (John 3 vs 3-8. 1Peter 1 vs 23)

Another religious notion is that God sends or allows sickness and misery into the lives of His children, perhaps to teach them something! They believe this, even though Jesus Christ healed everyone who came to Him for healing, never once turning anyone away. Jesus says it is Satan, mankind's enemy who robs us of health and happiness, He, Jesus, came to give us health and happiness. (John 10 vs 10). The Holy Spirit gave us the name FERN because He saw we are free from all earthly and religious notions.

Our Beliefs:

We believe the Bible to be the Word of God. We believe God meant the Bible to be read and accepted just as He wrote it, without it being 'spiritualised' or explained away, and that the Bible is the only infallible and authoritative Word of God. (2 Tim 3vs 16-17. Peter 1 vs 19-21. John 5 vs 39. Matt 24 vs35)

We believe:
There is one God, the Creator, eternally existing in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the HolySpirit.(Gen. vs 1. Isaiah43 vs 10-11. 2 Cor 13 vs 14. Matt 28 vs 19. John 14 vs 16-17.)

In the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the Son of God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious an datoning death and His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father. (John 1 vs 1-3. Heb 1vs 8. Matt 1 vs 23. John 14 vs 30. John 2 vs 11Isaiah 53 vs 4-6. Matt 28 vs 6. Acts 1 vs 9)

In the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 14 vs 1-3. Actsvs 11. Thess 4 vs 15-17)

In the Person and work of the Holy Spirit and His fruit and gifts the Church. (1 Cor 6 vs 12 and 14. Cor 1 vs 7)

Abiding in
the spiritually lost condition of men. (Gen. 3; John 3 vs17-18 and vs 36).
in the essential need of the New Birth by faith in Jesus Christ.vs 3-36).

That the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Jesusvs 18-19).

In the sacraments of the Lord’s supper, and baptism by immersion in the Name of Jesus.( 1 Cor 11 vs 23-26; Matt 26 vs 26-28;vs 16; Matt 28 vs 19).
In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling Christian is enabled to live the holy life. (Gal 5 vs16; John 14 vs 16-17).

In the resurrection of both the saved to everlasting life and the un-saved to everlasting damnation. (John 3 vs 36; John 5 vs 28; John 29 vs 11; Thess 1 vs 8-9; Rev 20 vs 11-15)

In Gods prosperity and provision for His Children. (2Cor. 8 vs9.John 10vs10. Psalm 35 vs27b. Deut 8 vs18.)

Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

We believe:
In the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a separate experience from the New Birth for all believers. The purpose of which is the receiving of power for witness. The blessing of speakingin tongues is to be expected in connection with the Baptismof the Holy Spirit.( Acts 1 vs 1-8; Acts 2 vs 1-38 Acts 8 vs15-19;Acts 10 vs 44-77; Acts 19 vs 1-7)

We believe in divine healing.
through personal faith in Jesus Christ. (Mark 5 vs 34).
through the laying on of hands. (Mark 16 vs 17)
through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor 12 vs 9).
through the atonement. (Matt 8 vs 17; 1 Peter 2 vs 24)
through the eldership of the Church. (James 5 vs 14-15).
through simply believing the Word of God. (Psalm 107 vs20)
